On Trend 2020

Whilst I strongly believe we should not live our lives around whats on trend and in fashion I have to say 2020 has some inspiring home styles for us.  Balancing a classic, timeless feel with trendy additions is not as difficult or expensive as it sometimes seems.  Here are some of my favourite ideas that are easy to execute and stylish in the extreme.

BLUE

I would not go so far as to say blue is the new grey but my goodness we will be seeing a lot more of it.  Pantone declared Classic Blue the colour of 2020.  Classic Blue is in fact a stunning navy and very easy to incorporate into your home.  Whilst changing your sofa a a deep Navy may not be practical by adding cushions and a throw you can acheive a similar look.  Navy paint is featuring heavily and I have to say, I'm loving it.

CEILINGS
2020 is the year for ceilings to shine, metaphorically speaking that is, but if a shiny ceiling is your temptation then this is the year.  While walls are busy being paneled add some interest to your ceiling.  Not always the easiest of tasks but trust me when I say it is completely worth the effort.  The example shown is from an amazing account on Instagram and I can not help but drawl a little at this outstanding room.

NATURAL MATERIALS
It is so important to surround ourselves with nature and natural materials in order to feel a connection with the outside world and this year it has come to the forefront in interiors as well as lifestyle. Rattan Furniture and accessories are a perfect example of this, offering an inexpensive and lightweight alternative to synthetic furniture. Raw wooden surfaces, whether on tables, chairs or kitchen cabinets, are also taking over from their high-gloss counterparts that were previously so popular. I love the use of shells and twigs alongside stone and wood in this picture, perfectly encapsulating the natural look.

FLORAL WALLPAPER
The botanical and palm prints have been incredibly popular in recent years and have given us a new found love of bold wallpapers.  This year expect to see florals taking over from the lush tropicals.  It the thought of flower power makes you wince than maybe try a dressing room wall or powder room first. The secret to not looking dated is to choose a large scale, bold colour or metallic detail paper.
